The Biography of Duane GF Erickson
Duane Erickson is a western Canadian artist who was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta.
Duane showed great artistic ability at an early age and won several contests in elementary, junior and senior high school. Duane attended and graduated in 1976 from the Alberta College of Art and went on to also take 2 years at the University of Calgary.
While attending the Alberta College of Art, he worked as a sign writer for Taylor Signs. Upon finishing school, he moved to Saskatoon with his wife Jackie and worked for a sign company for a year and mover on to a farming manufacturer doing advertising. Shortly after the birth of his daughter (Marcia) Duane and his family moved back to Calgary where he began working at the Calgary General Hospital in their Educational Services Department. Duane did medical illustration and short medical films in Department television studio, he was on camera two. He then moved on and began work for Fluor Engineering doing graphics, also worked in their scale model department making oil and gas plants like Joffre plant.
Duane began doing freelance work doing a variety of jobs including desktop publishing, graphics, photography, and illustrator and then started his own printing and sign company.
*Over the past 15 years Duane has started painting more seriously taking great inspiration from places that he’s traveled to.
*Duane’s work has been described as realistic but strong in colour, with enough detail to keep you looking for more in each of his paintings.
Duane was a member of the Airdrie Arts Society from 2015 to 2019 where he also helped to run Art Shows as well as being a successful exhibitor. Duane has also given local art lesson classes at the local at library. Duane has his paintings hanging in local businesses etc.
*Duane is a family man with a love of the outdoors and fishing. He loves sharing his love of art with his grandchildren especially his granddaughter who also has a passion for arts.
